The Two Ways To Live course was conducted over 4 sessions between 14 June 2015 and 5 July 2015 in St. Mary’s Cathedral. Stanley Lee spoke to Tim Nicholls to find out more about what had been covered during the course.
What is the Two Ways To Live course about?
The Two Ways To Live course aims to do two main things:
- To give people a clear understanding and knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- To equip people with basic practical skills of how to to explain that Gospel to others in their own words.
How does the Two Ways To Live course help to explain the Gospel?
The Two Ways To Live course provides participants with a framework where they can learn to explain the gospel using 6 key points:
- God the creator; humanity ruling under his authority.
- Humanity rebels, wishing to run things its own way.
- God judges and will judge humanity for this rebellion.
- In his love, God sends Jesus to die as an atoning sacrifice.
- In his power, God raises Jesus to life as ruler and judge.
- This presents us with a challenge to repent and believe.
In what ways has the course benefited the participants?
The course has challenged each of the participants to actually do evangelism, praying for their friends and actively looking for opportunities to share the Gospel with the people around them. The participants have been able to come to a fuller appreciation of what the Gospel is, and how people should respond to it. This gives them the confidence to know what to say to their friends.
The course has also equipped the participants with a framework that helps them to share the Gospel. Having memorized the Two Ways To Live outline and learnt how to explain it in their own words, they’re in a much better position to be able to share the Gospel in normal conversation.
The participants have been challenged in the course to think about how to live a transparently Christian life, and learn how to bring the Gospel into daily conversation. This has put them in a better position to actively “create” Gospel opportunities, rather than merely passively “waiting” for them.
It’s been encouraging to see how some of the participants have already put these things into practice by seeking to share the Gospel in their workplace or with their family. One participant shared how a difficult situation in life meant that all her work colleagues were asking her what she thought about this as a Christian. This gave her the opportunity to share the Gospel with them.
Who would you encourage to join the course in the future and why?
Every Christian should be equipped to know what the Gospel is and to be able to share it with others. This course is a fabulous course because it does exactly that – teaches you what the Gospel is, how to explain it to others, and how to live a kind of life that is always looking for opportunities to share with others. If you still feel fear or confusion about sharing the Gospel with others, then do join this course again next time we run it!
