We believe that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripture alone, for the glory of God alone.

The year 2017 marks 500 years of the Reformation. Throughout the period of Lent, we have been considering 5 big truths that were uncovered and emphasized by our Reformers. We call them the 5 solas (“sola” being the Latin word for “alone”). It is God’s grace alone that saves us: we don’t deserve it, but He saves us as a gift. We receive this gift by faith alone, that is by trusting in Jesus Christ: we don’t get it by working for it (although we do good works in response to receiving it). Christ alone is our Saviour: He died on the cross for our sins, in our place. He alone is the Lord who was raised from the dead to rule His church, and He alone is the mediator between us and God. We meet this saving Christ in the Bible. While tradition, reason, and experience have their place, Scripture alone has the highest authority, for it is God’s Word. All this means that we cannot take credit for our salvation: we are saved for the glory of God alone.
