This year, the overarching theme for St Mary’s News is “How to be a More Loving Community”. In the previous edition, the focus was on children. For this edition, it is on youth.
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to Your Word. (Psalms 119:9)
Temptations abound in the world we live in. The natural instinct of fallen human beings is to succumb to such temptations for the sake of pleasure and entertainment. In this digital era, where technology enables information to spread at the speed of light, our youths are able to access a wealth of information (both good and bad) with the click of a mouse.
We have been seeing a great decline of interest in God’s Word among many of our youths today. It is indeed a worrisome epidemic, of which legalism and moralism are not the cure. It is the grace of God and love for His Word that will guard the hearts of our youths to walk in His ways.
But how can we instil such love into the hearts of our youths? It is not by talking down to them and treating them as children instead of youths. As a community of God’s people, we are to understand and walk alongside them, not just teaching them God’s Word in a classroom, but living it out through the power of the Holy Spirit within us.
Yours truly in Christ,
