The Cathedral Combined Service is an annual affair that unites all 11 congregations in one service. Here are some highlights from this year.
One of the highlights of our Cathedral calendar is the annual combined service. It is the gathering of 11 congregations, and the service itself combines elements from these different congregations.
This year, the service was held on the evening of 7 August, with the Dean, Andrew Cheah, preaching from 2 Corinthians 4:1-6.
We were reminded of our identity as belonging to the new covenant, united with Christ because of His dying on the cross for our sin; forgiven and accepted by God in Jesus; changed in our hearts and minds to be more like Jesus through the Spirit. We now have the ministry of proclaiming this Good News, the Gospel, and we are not to lose heart. Far from it, this Gospel drives our ministry.
Therefore, we are not to use false methods of manipulating, deceiving, or watering down the Gospel to attract people. Instead, we are to conduct our ministry in faithfulness to God’s Word, clearly and openly proclaiming the truth of the Gospel.
We do not proclaim ourselves nor call people to obedience to us, but to Christ as Lord because only He alone can save. And we rely on God to change people’s hearts as He is the One who enables us to see and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord. As more and more people believe in Jesus as their Saviour, the glory goes to God, not us.
This is to be our motive and method for ministry in all our congregations, as our mission is to glorify God together in response to His grace by making disciples of Jesus Christ.
The evening came to a close with a mini-concert by various bodies within the Cathedral, including one from the pastoral team. It was a fitting way to end our celebration of diversity in our unity.
