This year, the overarching theme for St Mary’s News is ‘How to be a More Loving Community’. The focus for this edition is on children.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14)
Are children meant to be seen but not heard? That was what the disciples thought. But Jesus rebuked them for hindering the children from coming to Him. He took them gently in His arms and blessed them. Just as children are dependent on their parents for their daily needs, so should we, as children of God, be dependent on our Heavenly Father. We cannot depend on our good works to be saved, for it is only through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that we can come boldly before God and call Him “Abba, Father”.
In this edition of St Mary’s News, we have carefully chosen a variety of topics with the sincere intention of encouraging the church to be a more loving community to children. Let us ourselves mirror the love of our Heavenly Father to the little ones around us.
Yours truly in Christ,
