Bringing Christ to Our Nepalese Community

One of the most encouraging developments at St Mary’s and its outreach ministries has been the growth of the Nepalese ministry, widely supported by many St Marians, as Joanne Liaw recounts.

Seeing the need for the gospel to reach out to the growing number of Nepalese seeking Christ, many St Marians began to involve themselves in this missionary endeavour.

This dedication bore much fruit among the Nepalese. There was a Nepali Christian who was looking for a Nepali Church for five months as the scarcity of Nepali churches in Malaysia posed a great challenge. The obstacle did not dampen his spirits and he continued searching for a Nepali Church. His prayers were answered when he finally met John Siwakoti and his Nepali church members as they were giving out tracts. He could not contain his excitement when he heard about the Nepali congregation of which he is now a member.

There was also recently another Nepali Christian who was praying to find a Nepali Church in Malaysia. Through one of her non-Christian hostel mates, she received a gospel tract and successfully located the Nepali congregation. Since then, she has been bringing both Christians as well as non-Christians to church.

Very often, Nepali Christians who are new, or have been residing in Malaysia for months, discover the Nepali congregation in Puchong through tracts available at St Mary’s and distributed locally. They in turn bring non believers to church who were touched by the good news of Jesus Christ which brought them much joy and hope in the midst of the hardships they face as migrant workers in a foreign land.

The gospel is not exclusive to a certain race or nationality. It unites God’s people from all over the world in the love of Jesus Christ. For the rich and the poor, the elite and the common, the well-educated and the uneducated are all sinners in need of a Saviour – Jesus Christ. Let us, who have received God’s salvation, not keep it to ourselves but share it with a lost and dying world.

How then will they call on the Lord in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? (Romans 10:14 ESV)

The Nepali Ministry in Puchong is blessed with many new Nepali sisters at the beginning of this year; the usual number of 3 sisters increased to an avergae of 20 sisters. Praise God! A few new brothers also joined us this year but, due to their work hours, are not abel to attend Sunday services regularly. We had a baptism for 3 brothers and 1 sister in January, and a new baptism class started in Febraury. We also had a Bible Quiz on 15 March. Questions were based on the book of 1 Peter. As it was a team competition, all the teams gathered in their own groups and studied the book together on Sunday morning. Everyone had a great time.
