Good News of Great Joy!

Incredible news that will change your life! Have you received it?

More than 350 guests, from St. Mary’s Christmas Guest Night, heard Andrew Cheah share on the good news of great joy that was announced by a multitude of angels to lowly shepherds. The event was held at the Royal Selangor Club on 12 December 2015. Joanne Liaw recounts the eventful night.

In a world riddled with bad news and uncertainties, it is all too natural for us to fear what tomorrow may bring. “Fear not” is a phrase we would love to hear, but it is also one we find hard to believe.

And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. (Luke 2:10)

The theme of the Christmas Guest Night was “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”. It was a time to recall the good news the angels brought the shepherds on the first Christmas night. The good news of the birth of a Saviour.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11)

Pain and suffering came into our world because of the sins of mankind. God could have left us to perish in our sin, but He chose to send His only Son, Jesus Christ, to take the penalty for our sin on our behalf. Jesus is “Christ the Lord” – the perfect King God had been promising to rise from the dead and lead us forever.

The Guest Night provided a wonderful opportunity to share this good news with many friends. The guests also enjoyed an eventful night of Christmas Carols, interactive games, sumptuous food and heartwarming conversations. The following were some feedback from the guests:

“It was a great event and I enjoyed myself immensely. Thank you.” – F. L.

“An enjoyable evening, Pastor Andrew’s presentation was very good.” – D. P.

“Thank you to all the organising committee and helpers. Excellent work!” – S. W.

Even in the face of bad news and uncertainties, we need not fear what tomorrow may bring, for the Gospel gives us hope in Christ. Jesus can wipe our slate clean and give a warm and loving relationship with God. We can live to eternally enjoy God’s presence, love and glory with all His people. That is good news that brings great joy!

Post Evangelistic Events
The guests were cordially invited to three evening events at St. Mary’s Cathedral to find out more about this good news. At each event, there was dinner, a talk and a Question-and-Answer session. The sessions answered the questions: “Who is Jesus and what is the evidence?”; “What did Jesus come to do and why is that relevant to me?”; “What does it mean to follow Jesus, and is that the only way to God?”
