Men’s Breakfast

by Andy Woodliffe

The Men’s Breakfast presents the opportunity for the men of the cathedral to discuss the challenges of the Christian life that are distinctly masculine – with the added bonus of a hearty breakfast! Last year we gathered once a month to look at Sam Allberry’s “Man of God” study book together. We were guided through key Biblical passages with applications specifically designed to help us understand our roles as husbands, fathers, sons and brothers, and to help us model the Biblical pattern. Usually the study is accompanied by a short talk and a period of discussion together. Listening to the wisdom of other men who have already raised their children, or who have been married for a long time (or who have even been single for a long time) was a very useful experience. Over the course of the year, as I was preparing myself for marriage, I gained great encouragement through this fellowship.

I always arrived feeling a little sleepy and wondering whether it would have been better to stay in bed: but I always left without any regret for coming. It is always a fun event, and always leaves me with much food for thought (as well as actual food).
